New Charter University is a private, for-profit, accredited distance learning university headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. New Charter University offers Associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in business, public policy and administration, and criminal justice. The university's courses are online and self-paced, meaning students can attend school when convenient and learn according to their own pace and personal learning style. Students take exams through an online proctoring service, and the university's competency-based model means that passing a course and earning a degree is based on the student demonstrating mastery of the course material—and not by logging seat time. However, many courses involve a number of exercises and projects, in addition to the final exam, to pass the course. Some program such as MBA may be limited to one course at a time.
